Acheh is devastated pretty badly. What you see and experience there will stay with you for a long time.

At least, you can tell your cucu2 cicit2 ... Many many years ago Giant Waves wiped out a place called Acheh. Atuk was there under Mercy Malaysia Mission Kelapan ...

What can i say about this event... not many poeple turn up as it felt on sunday just before chinese new year celebration...so obvious some were busy shopping and some had already left the town for the long break. Nevertheless, the event went on pretty well even though they have reduced down the laps.

Thaipusam at Batu Caves

View all 10 photos...
Thaipusam is an annual Hindu festival which draws the largest gathering in multi-racial Malaysia. Several hundred devotees spear their cheeks with long, shiny steel rods, often a metre long and pierce their chests, and backs with small, hook-like needles in penance. Hardly any bleeding and apparently, no pain as the devotee stands in a trance in the dawn light after weeks of rigorous abstinence. Spectacular edifices or Kavadis are often carried or pulled by the devotees with chains and ropes achored in the skin of their backs or chests. After ritual cleaning at a stream at the foothills, they walk up Batu Caves 272 steps accompanied by family and friends.

Some parents carry newborn babies slung in a cloth-cradle hung on a pole shouldered at both ends by the mother and the father as thanks for a safe birth. Some also carry kavadis made of wood or metal adorned with pictures or statues of Hindu deities, flowers and peacock plumes. Others shave their heads bald as a symbol of humility and atonement. Many observe a strict vegetarian diet for about 40 days and renounce all forms of comfort and pleasure-giving activities. The 40 days are spent in meditation and prayer.

This festival falls on a full moon day in the auspicious 10th Tamil month of Thai when the constellation of Pusam, the star of well-being, rises over the eastern horizon. To many Thaipusam is the day of thanksgiving or atonement for wrongs.

1st Outing
One morning as early as 6am, Enzo http://enzochang.fotopages.com/ sms'ed me just to ask whether i was free on that day.... Surprisingly i was awake even though i was on leave that day. So we decided to go to Templer's Park that morning. It was a lovely morning to walk and shoot photo in the park, and we left Templer's park at 1pm.

2nd Outing
The day the world got shocked from the Tidal wave news, me and faizal http://ahmadfaizal.fotopages.com/ were busy shooting at Orchid & Hibiscus Garden near Lake Garden. We tested few new things,..faizal with his new VR lens and me with my IR filter. Using IR filter on the sunny day, the photo will look red'ish but after touch-up with PS, it turn-out pretty good.

Wah!!! great waterfall shots.... Wed 26-Jan-2005 16:17
